MUNICH - The FIBA Europe Board that convened in an extraordinary session in Munich on Monday, approved the bidding process for both FIBA EuroBasket 2021 and FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2021.

The meeting was chaired by FIBA Europe President Turgay Demirel with FIBA President Horacio Muratore and FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak also in attendance and in the presence of newly appointed FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis who received a warm welcome by the Board members.

FIBA Europe will invite all European Federations to formally express an interest in organizing either event by sending letters of interest by mid-January.

Submission of formal bids and evaluation will take place gradually between mid-January and June 2019, before the Board votes on the hosts in July 2019.

Bids will open as single-country bids (one country hosting the entire tournament) and multi-country bids (countries hosting either a group in the Group Phase or hosting a group in the Group Phase and the Final Phase).

FIBA EuroBasket and FIBA Women's EuroBasket are FIBA Europe's flagship events.

Multi-country hosting was introduced as an option prior to EuroBasket 2015 and has proved an astounding success.

The last two FIBA EuroBasket events were hosted in four countries; the 2015 event broke new ground by being hosted by Croatia, France, Germany and Latvia while the 2017 edition was organized in Finland, Israel, Romania and Turkey.

FIBA Women's EuroBasket was hosted jointly by Hungary and Romania in 2015, while the 2019 edition will be played in Latvia and Serbia.

The Board also approved the hosts of the remaining three youth events in 2019.

The FIBA U18 Women's European Championship will take place in Sarajevo (BIH), July 6-14.

The FIBA U16 Women's European Championship will be organized in Skopje (MKD), but on new dates, August 22-30.

Finally, Prishtina (KOS) will host the FIBA U20 Women's European Championship, Division B, August 3-11.
