Mar Ivanious College, Feb 28-The second day of 57th Mar Ivanious Inter collegiate Basketball Tournament for Men and Women saw four exciting matches in which Ivanious women team eased passed St Joseph’s Alapuzha, while men’s team of KE College, Mannanam comprehensively beat Sahrdya College, Thrissur.
In other matches, a confident looking Naval Academy beats Nehru College, Kanhangadu while in women’s section Alphonsa College, Pala beats SES College, Sreekandapuram.
Ivanious had in their team Indian national youth academy participant Sreekala- who was the major difference between the two teams. St Joseph’s , Alapuzha couldn’t cope with the power and pace of Sreekala- who launched counter attacks with ease. Point guard Mahima Shibu complemented Sreekala’s efforts with some stunning three pointers and making herself available at the opponent’s half during counter attacks and scoring with precision.
In the second match, the star studded team of KE College, Mannanam eased passed Sahrdya college, Thrissur by a score line of 79-45. Point guard Moncy Bovas, Josy Joseph, Mathew Joseph(Appu), and Jissmon Jiji continued their impressive form from the last match against Ivanious B team by linking up well and scoring baskets consistently. Sahrdya couldn’t cope with the well organized and rich-in-talent team of KE College.
Indian Naval Academy with some consistent performance and team play defeated Nehru College, Kanhangad by a score line of 84-72 in an equally contested match on Wednesday. Pramod Jakhar,Pramod Kumar Shaw and Keshav Sharma did the bulk of the scoring for Naval Academy while Shijin Shajan, Abin Sabu and Syam Sunil scored the most points for Nehru College. The match was evenly poised in three quarters except for the second quarter in which the Naval team scored 20 points and let Nehru College score only 8 point- a point gap that was vital in the final result.
In a low scoring match in the women’s section Alphonsa College beats SES College, Sreekandapuram by a score line of 37-11. The match which saw shots not finding the basket, both teams had a hard time finding their rhythm. However, SES College scored 20 points in the second quarter which ensured their victory in the end.
