Mar Ivanious College, Trivandrum, March 2- Men’s team of SB College, Chanaganassery and women’s team of  St Joseph’s, Irinjalakkuda wins the 57th Mar Ivanious Trophy here on Friday. Both teams beat the men’s and women’s teams of the home team-Mar Ivanios in the finals.

In an electrifying atmosphere at the historic Mar Ivanious basketball court, the men’s final went down to the wire as both teams battled  out for the prestigious Mar Ivanious Trophy until the last second of the match. The final score read SB College-74, Mar IVanious-69.With much disappointment to the home crowd , Ivanious couldn’t handle the pressure during the dying minutes of the match which the opposition took advantage of and eventually won the match by 5 points. The scores were tied at many instances during the third and fourth quarter with Ivanious players pressing hard to force miss passes and errors from opposition players. However, the away team handled the pressure better than the home team .Shibil of SB College was a vital cog for the winning team in the finals as the number fifteen was calm and composed in front of the basket and scored some exceptional 3 pointers and gave Ivanious defense a hard time. All eyes were on the national player Sejin Mathew of Ivanious,who controlled the team’s offense and defense with composure, but couldn’t convert the penalty shots effectively. Same was the case with Moosa –who failed to convert the penalty shots . 

In the women’s final earlier in the evening, St Joseph’s Irinjalakkuda beats the home team comprehensively with right tactics and intention. The final scorecard read St Joseph’s, Irinjalakkuda 62, Mar Ivanious-39. St Joseph’s fielded their number 9 Divya to restrict Ivanious’s national level player Sreekala from controlling the game and the tactic worked well. Lithara of St Joseph’s scored consistently for the away team and kept Ivanious under constant pressure. Mahima , the point guard of Ivanious couldn’t replicate her impressive form in the finals which was a major blow for the home team.
