Dehradun: Kerala women wins gold medal for the first time in the Masters National Basketball Championship at Dehradun by beating Uttar Pradesh 43-27 in the finals.
Led by Suma Joseph from Kottayam, the team had experienced players like Jeena Jose (Southern Railways), Prameela S (Southern Railways), Binu Cherian (Aluva), Shelly Jose Roox (Bengaluru), Bindu Kuriakose (Kannur), Kala Devi (Aluva), Thanu Stanly (Alappuzha) and Deepakumari (Eloor).
Binu Cherian (19), Bindu Kuriakose (9) and Jeena Jose (8) top scored for Kerala in the final match.
In the men’s segment, the Kerala team won silver in masters (50-plus age group) and bronze in (40-plus) category at the championship.
The tournament was held as part of Masters Game 2019 organized by Masters Federation which aims to promote and encourage veteran sports personalities and athletes above the age of 30 to continue playing their game.
