Coimbatore, May 16th: Kerala girls fought hard to earn a one-point victory over defending champions Punjab on day 2 of the ongoing 36th Youth National Basketball Championship for boys and girls here at PSG College of Technology. The final score read Kerala-76 Punjab- 75.
A match that could have gone either way saw the lead being shifted between the two teams six times and scores tied 12 times over the course of the match. Punjab led 18-11 at the end of first quarter and ended up the first half with a lead 39- 35. However Kerala girls increased the pressure on 3rd quarter and ended up with a point lead before 4th quarter. Ann Mary top scored for Kerala with 25 points followed by Aleena Antony with 21 points.For Punjab NBA Global Camper Harshimran Kaur scored 38 points.
The day 2 also saw another close match in girls section as Delhi beat Chhattisgarh by a scoreline of 78-72 while Tamil Nadu girls had no difficulty in beating Maharashtra 74-69 and to register their second victory in Group B.
In boys category, Delhi beat Madhya Pradesh (65-23) Andhra Pradesh beat Jammu and Kashmir (84-47),Utharkhand beat Goa (70-34) Chandigarh bt Jharkhand (92-35) ,Bihar beat Puducherry (63-50) and Assam scrape past Odhisa (66-63).
