Bengaluru, 10th June 2019: The FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers Draw Ceremony was held in Bengaluru on Saturday, 8th June 2019 at the Shangri-La Hotel in the city.
The 24 participating teams have been drawn into six groups of four teams each. India is in Group D with Lebanon, Bahrain and Iraq.
Defending champions Australia are in Group C, while the most successful team in the competition, China (with 16 titles) is in Group B.
Further details as to the tournament format are still awaited.
The FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers will be the first time a qualifying tournament is being held in the lead up to the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup. While the venue and exact dates of the Qualifiers are still to be announced, it is expected to be held this November.
Legendary Asian guards Jimmy Alapag (Philippines) and Asami Yoshida (Japan) assisted with the draw procedure that also saw, among others, FIBA President Horacio Muratore and FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis in attendance.
