JAKARTA (Indonesia) – The countdown to FIBA Asia Cup 2022 has begun, with the FIBA Regional Office Asia and the Indonesian Basketball Federation, Perbasi, officially confirming that the event will take place from 12-24 July 2022. FIBA Asia Cup 2022, Asia’s premier men’s national team competition, was originally scheduled for August 2021. FIBA Asia Cup 2022 which will be played in Jakarta, Indonesia will feature 16 teams that qualified through the first-ever FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers. This will be the second time in history that Indonesia hosts this premier event. The last time the FIBA Asia Cup was held in Indonesia was back in 1993. Indonesia were the first team to secure a spot at the FIBA Asia Cup 2022 as hosts of the competition. At the end of the inaugural FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers, 12 more teams qualified for FIBA Asia Cup 2022 as the top two teams in their respective groups. Chinese Taipei, India, and Saudi Arabia became the last three teams to qualify via the Qualifying Tournaments for Third Ranked Teams in August. The sixteen teams qualified for FIBA Asia Cup 2022 are defending Champions Australia, Bahrain, China, Chinese Taipei, India, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Lebanon, New Zealand, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and hosts Indonesia.
